ONE.61 LIMITED
One.61 is a company that was established by Director Derek Manson with the vision of assisting people and companies with Product 
Development.  Since then One.61 has grown to now provide a wide range of solutions for an extensive range of industries including 
medical, architectural, manufacturing and engineering. 
One.61 essentially operates in 2 different capacities. One is New Zealand’s leading Rapid Prototyping bureau. The other is a highly 
innovative and creative design consultancy. 
The One.61 Rapid Prototyping Bureau offers clients very quick, high quality parts and with a range of processes available is able to 
match the properties of the part to the purpose of the model. FDM, SLA, SLS and CNC are all available and as a secondary process 
vacuum casting is also on offer.
One.61’s design consultancy already provides many manufacturers and engineers with design services which have enabled them to 
provide market leading products. Our team assist from concept right through to manufacturing liaison.  
One.61 believes that technology is still only a tool and it’s the relationships with the clients and its staff that sets it apart from the 
others. We provide a personal service and are always willing to discuss any projects challenges with any client. Most of all we love 
being challenged by our clients and providing the solutions that make the difference.

WHY ARE WE NAMED ONE.61?
 
One.61 Ltd’s name was inspired by a phenomenon known as the golden ratio.  This 
mathematically derived number is responsible for an enormous amount of debate and 
discussion among the academic fraternity as to its actual place in our arts, architecture 
and science.
The ratio is expressed as an irrational number but to 5 decimal places is:

It is also expressed by the symbol phi F
 
It is thought that great minds such as Leonardo Da Vinci and Johannes Kepler were strong 
believers in the ratio and that Da Vinci used it in his paintings including in The Last Supper, 
however this is merely speculative. 
 
Geometries of nature are also thought to be the products of the ratio including the spiral 
of the nautilus shell and patterns of sunflower seeds. The Fibonacci number series which is 
connected to the golden ratio is also thought to relate to mapping population growths, 
plant branching and rose-petal formations. 
 
Whilst there is a large school of thought that believes in all of this wonderful alignment 
between mathematics and nature there is an equally large belief that things are not as 
perfect as they seem and it is this conflict that we are actually named after. 
 
We believe that is what life, and design, is all about – Two diametrically opposed opinions over 
something that ultimately still exists, regardless of what is thought about it.
